Sharing My Weekend – Trip to VA

This past weekend Hubs, Peanut, and I made our first road trip to my mom’s house. Again, Peanut was a perfect little angel. ;]

We were originally going to leave early Friday morning, but we decided at the last minute to head out Thursday night. It worked out really well because Peanut slept the whole way there. We left our house around 6:30 PM, and after running a couple errands before really heading to my mom’s, we got there around 10:30 PM. Want to hear something funny? Want to know what I forgot to bring with us? THE WHOLE BAG OF PEANUT’S CLOTHES…. what!? Ya, that just happened. Luckily he was already wearing the sleeper he was going to wear that night and the diaper bag had a couple of onesies in it, but I was going to need to get him some new clothes for the rest of the trip – WOMP! :]

My mom actually had to work on Friday, so while she was at work we ran some errands. Hubs has been on the hunt for a vehicle for quite some time now and he found a VW Bug that he wanted to go look at in Richmond (which is about an hour and half from my mom’s). So Friday morning after eating some breakfast, we headed to Richmond. Unfortunately, the Bug wasn’t AT ALL what the owner said it was – which was, of course, very upsetting. Hubs had gotten his hopes up on this one. =\ First of all, they (Hubs and the Bug’s owner) had talked on the phone many times and Hubs had asked AT LEAST five times about there being any rust on the body. The owner was very adamant that it was in excellent condition and there was no rust. Well, we got there and the first thing Hubs noticed was… RUST. But in addition to that (which the owner failed to tell him beforehand – which is RUDE considering HE KNEW we were traveling pretty far to look at this vehicle) the “pop doors” didn’t work, there was a patch on the back panel, the gear shifter was so loose that Hubs had to yank it into place, the gas pedal was so out of order that you had to slam it to the ground to even go a little bit, the speedometer didn’t work, the wires on the steering column were taped to the column so you had to really turn the wheel to turn the car slightly, etc. It was bad. Hubs was pretty frustrated about it, but at least he wasn’t left wondering “what if”.

While he was out there looking at the vehicle, Peanut and I stayed in the air conditioned van. :] I had the back seats down and there was just enough room to let him roll around and stretch his limbs.

After we were done there, we headed to the local mall for lunch. There’s a Japanese food place there (yes, in the mall’s food court, of all places) that is SO good. We had talked about going there every time we were in town to visit, but never actually made it until this time. It was delicious.

After we ate, we walked around for a little while just to kill some time, got some cinnamon sugar pecans (aka German Pecans – something new I learned) and then headed to Target to get Peanut some clothes. When we were done there we drove into Hubs’ old neighborhood and man, I can’t believe how much that place has changed in the four years that we’ve been gone. Around 5 PM or so we headed back to my mom’s, hung out, had dinner, hung out some more, and went to sleep.

On Saturday morning, my mom, Peanut, Hubs, and I got ready and headed out to Duck Donuts. None of us had ever been before and it was pretty cool. It’s a made-to-order donut place. You walk in and there are tons of bare/plain donuts. You pick what icing you want and what kind of toppings you want and they make it for you, box it up, and you’re good to go.

I thought it was pretty cool! The donuts were pretty good! They weren’t fantastic, but they were good enough that I would go again. :]
After that, we headed to my mom’s work so she could show Peanut off to all of her coworkers, we had lunch, then headed home to hang out a bit before dinner.

For dinner we were going to Surf Rider and we were so excited! Hubs and I had been before, but my mom had not. It’s pretty much a really nice seafood place. Yum! My friend, A, met us there and I was SO HAPPY to see her again!! I hadn’t seen her in almost three years!! So it was definitely nice to catch up. My brother and nephew also met us there. I couldn’t believe how big my nephew had gotten! He’s super cute. :]

This trip was the first time my brother met Peanut, by the way! It was a really fun trip and I’m glad we finally made it up to see my mom. (She’s come down a few times to see Peanut, but this was our first trip to her house.)

We got back Sunday afternoon around 2:30 PM, unpacked, I did some laundry, and we relaxed until bed.

How was your weekend?!
