This past Monday was Hubs and I’s first wedding anniversary! Yay! =] One happy wonderful year down, a million gajillion more to go!
I seriously can’t believe it’s been a year. It feels like just this morning that I walked down the aisle!
We took a couple of days off to spend with each other, which was really nice. We had originally planned on going out of town but decided that we should stay home and relax (and save money). We did, however, go out to dinner and it was delicious! We went to The Pit.
If you’re a Food Network channel watcher then you know that they were featured on there and supposedly (I didn’t watch it, or if I did, I don’t remember – Hubs seems to remember) the chef at The Pit beat Bobby Flay in a cook off! The Pit is BBQ, but upscale. I guess that’s how I would describe it… I knew this place was “nicer” than just a regular ‘ol restaurant and I had the hardest time deciding what to wear because in reality, it’s still BBQ and how fancy can you be while eating BBQ? Anyway, the food was really good and we will definitely be going back!
Here’s a break down:
For appetizer we had Southern-Style Deviled Eggs and Hush Puppies and Biscuits with Sweet Butter. The sweet butter was so good! They probably just mixed sugar with their butter – haha – but it was good!
I had the Half Rack of Baby Back Ribs with Potato Salad and Creamed Corn.
(Okay, so I’m looking at the picture above and it really doesn’t look like a lot of food, but trust me when I say it was!)
Hubs had the Double Combo with Beef Brisket, Half Rack of Carolina Style Spare Ribs and Heirloom Cabbage Collard Greens with Hand Cut Fries.
(You can’t really tell, but the Beef Brisket, under the Carolina Style Spare Ribs, spanned the width of the plate!)
For dessert we had Aunt Hattie’s Double Chocolate Chocolate Cake with a scoop of Vanilla Ice Cream.

It was a really nice weekend being able to spend time with each other. It’s funny how we work the same daily work schedule but it can still feel like we don’t get to spend a whole lot of time just being with each other. Life is so busy! We all just need to slow it down a little sometimes.

Oh ya (again) – I forgot to mention that we also got a FREE anniversary cake from the bakery that made our wedding cake. We still saved a piece of our wedding cake from a year ago and took a bite just to say we did – it actually wasn’t bad! Here’s a picture of our FREE anniversary cake:

(Okay so that still doesn’t look like a ton of food, but it really was! I mean, it was enough for another full meal!)

I'm so glad you two had a great anniversary! From the looks of your dinner, you’re like me and my hubby, we’d choose the same sort of celebration and dining! Those ribs look delish – well it all does except for the deviled eggs, I never have liked eggs. Anyway, I’m glad we readers got to share in this and see what you ate and I’m smiling just knowing about another couple just starting out.
I won’t give you the long version, but for my hubby and I this is our 2nd marriage. He was with his first wife for almost 20 years and I was with my first for almost ten. When we met, he was 9 yrs older than I was and we were both going thru a divorce. We met in 1991 and I’m telling you that I truly believe in “love at first sight”, that’s what it was like for both of us. We moved in together 2 weeks after we met, married in 1998 and are more in love now than we’ve ever been – each day is better than the last. I wish that for you, as well. Having someone you are happy with through good and bad is what matters. I’ve always said that I’d live in a shack if I had to and it wouldn’t bother me a bit, but I wouldn’t last a day without him!
I wish you two all the best and never forget to cherish each other daily!

The story of how we met is kind of funny too – his sister was my best friend in high school. She’ll be quick to say “she was MY friend before she was HIS girlfriend!” =] We met about seven years ago, have been together for five years and married for just over a year now. I had actually moved from VA to CA to spend some time with my dad when my (now) husband and I really started talking/dating, so after awhile I moved back to VA to be with him. That long distance stuff is hard! We dated for a little over six months before I moved back. I couldn’t be happier! Before I met him I always told myself that I would never get married and that I would live in an apartment so that I wouldn’t have to do yard work, ever. LOL! It’s funny to think back on things like that! What was I thinking?! I hadn’t met my husband yet, that’s all! =]
We must be sisters from another mother because let me tell you – I’ve said that I would live in a cardboard box if I had to! And for our dinner celebration – The Pit definitely wasn’t a “hole in the wall” type of place, but I really would chose a hole in the wall restaurant over something fancy ANY day! =]
Aw, that’s a nice “how we met”story! Hubby and I were introduced by his cousin and I thank her every day of my life! I bet the long distance relationship was tough!! I can’t imagine it!
Isn’t it funny how we think our life will be according to our plans, then it turns out differently and we wonder how or why we ever thought of something different?!? I hope that makes sense (it does to me, lol). It’s funny that you said “sisters from another mother” because I thought that very same thing a comment or two ago – seriously! Along with another person whose blog I follow (btw, just realized I wasn’t following yours, so I took care of that!), her and I think so much alike, also. I have only begun this journey of blogging but so far have met some wonderful people and new friends and I’m happy to say that you are one of them!

I had a hard time deciding what I actually wanted my blog to be about – it went from, crafting, to cooking, to being a new wife, back to learning how to cook, back to re-purposing furniture and I finally just decided that I will blog about whatever I want to blog about it!
